Michael Martin

Professional Experience

Michael has spent his entire 28-year career in public accounting. He has extensive experience providing federal and state tax planning, representation before federal and state taxing authorities, research, and compliance services to middle market and emerging growth companies in a wide variety of industries. During his career, Michael has been actively involved in tax research and planning for numerous mergers, acquisitions and sales of private and publicly held companies. He also has extensive experience in individual and estate tax planning. Michael has served as an expert witness to the United States Tax Court on behalf of clients.

Recent Engagements

Income and Estate Tax Planning: A major tax restructuring of a $150 million construction company.  The engagement involved the formation of several new entities that resulted in major income and estate tax savings for the company and individual shareholders.  

Franchise Tax Planning: Successfully restructured several clients’ legal entities to minimize state franchise taxes upon sale of their businesses. Such restructuring resulted in a franchise tax savings of thousands of dollars for these clients.

Internal Revenue Service Representation:  Successfully negotiated a settlement with the IRS resulting in approximately $100,000 in tax abatement.  This result was possible because of many years of experience dealing with the collection division of the IRS.

Education

Michael received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A&M Commerce.

Michael is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA).
